He attended Kan- sas City, Kansas Community College graduating from the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts-Business Administration degree.

It was in accounting class at UMKC that he met Anne Arlene Nelson, a studious pharmacy major. Prior to their graduating, they were married in 1955 and celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary in 2015. They were blessed with daughters Cheryl A. Spittler and Carolyn Bruner Rockhold. He was an affection- ate husband and father ex- pressing joy, pride and love to his girls.

As was his dream, John be- came owner-operator of John Bruner Landscaping, Inc. con- tracting jobs in the Midwest planting many of the trees and seeding the greenways of the U.S. Army installations of Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth as well as Whiteman Air Force Base. By 1961, the authorized Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 brought John and his crews long, hot, hard work days, which found him completely in his element. Today many of the highways and bi-ways still bear his imprint of tender care, thor- ough knowledge and love of nature.

Not content with his thriving seeding business, John owned and operated two International Harvester Company dealerships in Independence and Olathe. From 1968 to 1983, John estab- lished Red Ranch Rental which became a family affair with his wife and daughters working to- gether, as well as many ex- tended relatives and countless friends. Throughout his construction ventures, sub-contracting and property development, John continued seeding and land- scaping private and public green spaces with his trusted right- hand man of 40 years, Steve Hart. He mentored innumerable young men and women, instill- ing the value of an honest work. He served on the Board of Di- rectors of the Wyandotte Bank, the Kansas City, Kansas Cham- ber of Commerce, and the Fair- fax Municipal Airport.

He was an active member of the American Rental Association serving as officer of its Kansas City chapter. He also enjoyed participation on the Wyandotte County Historical Museum fundraising committee. work ethic was sur- passed only by his generous dedication to the Master, as a Community of Christ priesthood member, beginning at age 18. He attended and provided steadfast service in the Chelsea, Bethel, and The Highlands Con- gregations and their surrounding communities. He ministered tire- lessly making home and hospital visits to those in need of prayer, comfort and companionship.

John, who never met a stranger, enjoyed good conver- sation (usually over coffee), dis- cussing world events and shar- ing laughter. Friends and family will long after recall the stories of his experiences he be- lieved they were worth repeat- ing. He found good in the world and effortlessly extended an en- couraging word, compliment, hug or handshake. John, with Arlene, enjoyed traveling, their place at the Lake of the Ozarks, gardening, so- cializing at civic and cultural events, dining with friends and business acquaintances, their Monday Night Gang and spend- ing time with nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters. MORAN Nov 2, 1929-Oct 3, 2016 In his words, John Moran had a wonderful life and was the lucki- est man on earth. He welcomed his death as he had welcomed life with positive energy, curi- osity, humor, and peace. John was raised in the North- east area of Kansas City as a proud Irish Catholic and was grateful for his experiences and friends from his childhood. He graduated from De Le Salle high school. He was both a World War II and Korean War veteran.

He regularly said he wished he could thank all of the taxpayers who enabled him to pursue his much valued education, funding his Rockhurst college degree and UMKC law degree through the GI bills. So, thank you. John was married to Mary Miller Ross for 35 years and was a devoted father to four children from that marriage: Greg Moran, Laura Moran, Rick Moran and Jennifer Masoner. He later mar- ried Jaci Mairs in 2000 and, as a dedicated stepfather, helped raise two daughters, Ellen Morgan and Hannah Morgan. John and Jaci treasured their years together and the love and experiences that they shared.

John practiced law for 31 years, the majority of that time in the law firm of Gant, Jolley, Moran, Walsh, Hager and Gor- don. He became a Circuit Judge for the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri, in 1988 where he presided over criminal, civil, and domestic cases. He was proud of the fact that not once as a judge did he use his gavel; he preferred using words and reason, and humor, to promote order in the Court. His belief in the potential of humanity was his foundation as a judge. John lived most of his life in Kansas City, Missouri, but John was a world citizen, traveling far and wide.

He was all too aware of the political, religious, and historical divisions, but on his travels and in his heart, he felt no divisions and never met a stranger. survivors include his current wife, Jaci Mairs, Kansas City, his first wife Mary Miller Ross, Lawrence, KS, his six chil- dren and step-children and families: Greg and Ester Moran, Glendale, CA; Laura Moran and Med Dyer, San Diego CA; Rick and Missy Moran, Blue Springs MO; Jennifer and Eric Masoner, Warsaw, MO; Ellen Morgan, Lit- tle Rock, AR; and Hannah Mor- gan, Chicago, IL. Survivors also include nine grandchildren, Lu- cas and Xiomara Moran; Derek, Alex, and Riley Dyer; Chris and Crystal Wettengel; Baylee and Sean Moran; as well as four great-grandchildren, Hazel, Do- manic, Hadlee and Journee. Also surviving are five siblings and their families and his in-laws and their families: Ed Moran; Charles and Juanita Moran; Tom and Priscilla Moran; Barbara and Paul Hunter; Rita Moran; Carolyn and Rich Robinson; Marilyn and Brian Barkley; and Victoria Moran. He was a role model and inspiration to all.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Anne C. and John A. Moran, and two brothers, Gene Moran and Patrick Moran. A memorial mass will be held at Visitation Catholic Church, where he was a long-time mem- ber, on October 22, 11:00 a.m. at 5141 Main Street, KCMO.
