Strong Plea Made For Contributions To Red Cross Fund American National: Red Cross officials have asked the Paducah chapter to raise $2,500 as its portion of the nationwide drive to obtain money for Viet Nam war needs. The Red Cross normally maintains. emergency diaster fund, but the demands of the war upon that allocation have depleted the reserve. Increased responsibilities have been placed on the Red Cross organization in Viet Nam. A call for $9 million to meet these responsibilities has been issued.

"Our national expenditures in services to the Armed Forces as a result of Viet Nam are running at an average annual rate of $3.7 million above budgeted expenditures of $17.5 million. The current Viet Nam needs for services to the Armed Forces are being met now by limited emergency funds of the organization. At the present rate, those funds will be entirely depleted by next Miss Joaquin Seltzer, drive chairman said. She pointed out that "in little over one year, disasters, including the Alaskan earthquake, have cost $40.3 million million for Hurricane Betsy alone. The disaster revolving fund stood at $20 million on June 30, 1964.

It is now reduced to $2.5 million." The local chapter is trying to raise the money by August 15. Contributions may be sent to the McCracken County Chapter, American Red Cross, 532 Washington Paducah.
